An iPad can become a polished digital sign without a separate media player. With a stable internet connection, a safe power setup, and MBoardApp running in Safari, you can publish menus, promotions, schedules, welcome messages, and more from anywhere.
Before you begin
You will need an iPad that can run a current version of Safari, reliable Wi-Fi, continuous access to power, and an MBoardApp account. A secure wall mount or counter stand is also important if the iPad will be used in a public space.
Choose where the iPad will sit before designing your content. Decide whether portrait or landscape orientation works best, check that the screen is easy to see without glare, and keep the charging cable out of reach.
Step 1: Prepare the iPad
Update iPadOS, connect the iPad to your signage Wi-Fi network, and plug it into power. Turn off notifications for apps that could interrupt the display, and close any apps you do not need.
Set the screen brightness for the room rather than automatically using the maximum setting. This keeps the content comfortable to view and helps reduce unnecessary heat during long operating hours.
Step 2: Create your MBoardApp content
On your computer or another device, open MBoardApp at sign.mboardapp.com and create your account. Upload your images and videos or use the content tools to build your first design.
Keep text large, use strong contrast, and preview the layout in the same orientation as the iPad. Build a short playlist first so you can confirm the complete setup before adding more content.
Step 3: Add the iPad as a screen
In the MBoardApp dashboard, add a new device and give it a clear name such as “Reception iPad” or “Counter Menu.” Descriptive names make the screen easier to find later, especially when you manage several locations.
Open Safari on the iPad and go to sign.mboardapp.com. Follow the player pairing instructions shown on screen, then use your MBoardApp dashboard on another device to pair the iPad with the device you created.
Step 4: Publish and test
Assign your content or playlist to the new iPad screen and publish it. The player should begin displaying the assigned content once pairing is complete.
Watch a full playlist cycle. Confirm that every image is sharp, videos play smoothly, text is readable from the normal viewing distance, and portrait or landscape content fills the screen as expected.
Step 5: Lock the iPad to the display
Guided Access can keep the iPad in Safari and prevent visitors from leaving the signage screen. Open Settings, choose Accessibility, then Guided Access. Turn it on, set a Guided Access passcode, and configure Display Auto-Lock for your operating needs.
Return to Safari with your signage playing. Triple-click the top button, or the Home button on an older iPad, choose Guided Access if prompted, and review the session settings. You can turn off Touch when the sign is not intended to be interactive, then tap Start. Keep the Guided Access passcode in a secure place.
Step 6: Make it ready for daily use
Use a secure mount with airflow around the iPad and charging adapter. Avoid direct sunlight, enclosed spaces, or damaged cables, and follow the iPad manufacturer’s guidance for safe operating temperatures and charging.
Check the screen after a restart and whenever Safari or iPadOS is updated. For unattended displays, include a simple opening checklist: power connected, Wi-Fi online, signage playing, brightness correct, and Guided Access active.
Update the screen from anywhere
Once the iPad is paired, you do not need to visit it for routine content changes. Sign in to MBoardApp from another device, update the design or schedule, and publish the change to the iPad.
Start with one screen, learn what your audience responds to, and expand when the setup is working reliably. The same dashboard can manage additional tablets, TVs, computers, and browser-enabled displays.
Quick troubleshooting
If content does not appear, confirm the iPad is online, reload Safari, and check that the correct playlist is assigned to the correct device in MBoardApp. If the screen sleeps, review Display Auto-Lock inside Guided Access and verify that the iPad remains connected to power.
If you need to leave the player, triple-click the top or Home button, authenticate with the Guided Access passcode, and end the session. After making changes, reopen the signage player and start Guided Access again.
