A great digital sign should communicate its message in seconds. You do not need a design degree to get there — a few thoughtful choices can make every screen easier to notice and understand.
1. Lead with one clear message
Decide what viewers should remember and make that the strongest element on the screen. Extra messages compete for attention, so move secondary information to another slide.
2. Design for viewing distance
Use large type, short sentences, and strong contrast. If the message cannot be understood from the normal viewing distance within a few seconds, simplify it.
3. Keep layouts consistent
A repeatable structure makes your content feel professional and helps customers recognise important information faster. Use the same fonts, colours, margins, and logo placement across slides.
4. Use motion with purpose
Animation can attract attention, but constant movement quickly becomes noise. Animate a headline, product, or call to action only when it helps guide the viewer.
5. Choose images that support the message
Use sharp, well-lit images with enough empty space for readable text. Avoid stretching small images or placing text over busy areas.
6. End with a clear action
Tell viewers exactly what to do next: scan a code, ask a team member, visit a counter, or take advantage of an offer today.
7. Review the screen in context
Previewing on a laptop is not enough. Check the finished content on the actual display, at the real viewing distance, and under the lighting conditions your audience will experience.
